28. Solid Waste: The applicant indicates that the Hilo landfill will be closing, which is the <br /> nearest solid waste disposal location. According to the 2018 South Hilo Landfill Final <br /> Closure Final Environmental Assessment, the County of Hawai`i Department of <br /> Environmental Management will continue to implement its current waste diversion <br /> program, as well as explore other options to effectively divert waste from the island <br /> waste stream, which will help to reduce the impacts and costs associated with trucking <br /> waste from East Hawaii to the West Hawaii Sanitary Landfill. <br /> 29. Essential Utilities and Services: All essential utilities are available to the subject <br /> properties. Fire and medical services are available from the Kawailani Fire Station. <br /> Police services are available from the Hilo Police Station. <br /> 30. Concurrency Requirements: The Department of Water Supply has indicated that <br /> County water is available with conditions. A traffic study is required whenever a <br /> proposed development will generate over 50 peak hour trips. Based on the request, a <br /> Traffic Impact Analysis Report is not required. The nearest Civil Defense siren is located <br /> approximately 3,750 feet away at the Kaumana Caves.
