No. 929 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 9:45 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Environmental Management,to which was referred Communication <br /> No. 929, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 929, transmitted by Managing Director Wilfred Okabe, dated May 2, 2018, <br /> nominates Mr. Justin Pequeno of Council District 2 to the Environmental Management <br /> Commission. Motion to approve was made by Council Member Sue Lee Loy and seconded by <br /> Council Chair Valerie Poindexter. <br /> As introduced by Ms. Rose Bautista, Executive Assistant to Mayor Harry Kim, Mr. Pequeno is <br /> originally from Texas and has lived in Hawai`i for approximately 5 years. He is currently <br /> employed as the Project Manager for the Kamehameha Schools and is an active member of the <br /> Hawai`i Island Chamber of Commerce, the South Hilo Rotary Club, and the Hawai`i Leeward <br /> Planning Conference. He is a graduate of Tufts University with a B.S. in Psychology and <br /> American Studies and from Columbia University in the City of New York with an M.A.in <br /> Political Science. <br /> Ms. Bautista explained that Mr. Pequeno was unavailable to attend your committee meeting due <br /> to previously scheduled obligations and that he would be present when his nomination is <br /> discussed again at the.Council's meeting on June 5, 2018. <br /> Council Member Lee Loy spoke in favor of the nomination explaining that she has known <br /> Mr. Pequeno since he arrived on island and knows him to be thoughtful and knowledgeable and <br /> that she would personally vouch for him. Council Member Kanuha and Council Member <br /> O'Hara thanked Council Member Lee Loy and said they felt comfortable forwarding the <br /> nomination with the information Ms. Lee Loy had provided. Council Member Chung remarked <br /> that his district had not been represented for a while and welcomed the nomination of <br /> Mr. Pequeno. <br /> EMC Report No. 5 <br />
