REQUEST: <br /> A Resolution authorizing the County(via the Department of Research and Development) to enter into an <br /> agreement with the Hawaii Tourism Authority to provide funding for the Hookaulike Signage Project for the <br /> Hawaii County. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> A goal of the Department of Research and Development Tourism Program is to increase communication, <br /> interaction and understanding between industry stakeholders, residents and the visitor industry, and ensure <br /> the integrity of our unique sense of place and appropriate recognition of our host culture. Interpretive <br /> signage on Hawaii county parks, trails and beaches will educate visitors and residents, and share safety <br /> information. The signs will include a QR code that provides translation into languages that support the <br /> County and the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) global markets such as simplified and traditional Chinese, <br /> Japanese, Korean, German and Hawaiian.
