For fiscal year 2018-2019, the County of Hawaii expects
to collect approximately $17,152,903, an increase of$4,660,817 over fiscal year 2017-
2018, assuming consumption remains at current stable levels. However, it is yet to be
seen how the lava disaster will impact consumption. It is possible that consumption will
be lower than forecasted, reducing fuel tax revenue.
UTILIZATION OF THE FUNDS
The Utilization of funds will be mainly focused on: providing resources for the
emergency fund, investing in road repaving material and equipment, flood control, tree
trimming and other road maintenance, the upgrading of traffic signals and striping for
roadway projects, school safety projects, and mass transit.
The table below shows the projected utilization of the increase in Fuel Tax Revenue:
Fuel Tax Increase Revenue Utilization
Emergency Fund $ 1,000,000
Road Paving $ 1,000,000
Mass Transit $ 1,000,000
Roads in Limbo $ 250,000
Signal Upgrades $ 750,000
Striping for Roadway Projects $ 450,000
Equipment and Materials $ 210,817
$ 4,660,817
Comm.
