REQUEST: <br /> Resolution No. 631-18 authorized the County to enter into an agreement to accept funds from the Hawaii <br /> Tourism Authority to develop and implement the Hawaii County Hookaulike Signage Project. This is a <br /> request to appropriate funds in the amount of$145,000.00 for this agreement. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> A goal of the Department of Research and Development Tourism Program is to increase communication, <br /> interaction and understanding between industry stakeholders, residents and the visitor industry, and ensure <br /> the integrity of our unique sense of place and appropriate recognition of our host culture. The Hookaulike <br /> Signage Project will provide Hawaii Island parks, trails and beaches with interpretive signs that will educate <br /> visitors and residents, and share safety information. The signs will include a QR code that provides <br /> translation into languages that support the County and the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) global markets <br /> such as simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German and Hawaiian.
