COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 707 IS A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HILO HAMAKUA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FOR THE SAKADA DAY CELEBRATION 2018. WHEREAS, the Hilo Hamakua Community Development Corporation (HHCDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose :mission is to assist in creating opportunities that preserve our environment, sustain our families, and improve the quality of life; and WHEREAS, on April 9, 2015, the Honorable Governor David Ige signed into law HB604 dedicating December 20th as Sakada Day, providing a long-awaited formal recognition of this very import part of the Filipino community; and WHEREAS, the fourth annual Sakada Day Celebration will be hosted by Pepe`eke6 town on December 16, 2018, to honor, showcase, and commemorate the legacy of 125,000 sugar and pineapple plantation workers (sakadas) recruited from the Philippines between 1906-1946 by the Hawaii Sugar Planters Association; and WHEREAS, HHCDC is requesting funds for cost of printing programs, posters, souvenir booklets, materials, and supplies for activities and demonstrations for the Sakada Day Celebration 2018; and WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Research and Development is to support sustainable agricultural practices by promoting educational opportunities designed to build skills and capacity in the farming community and to support local, national, and international promotion of locally produced agricultural products; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contigency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Hilo Hamakua Community Development Corporation to assist with the Sakada Day Celebration 2018. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby transfer/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
