REQUEST: <br /> The Hawai'i Fire Department is requesting a resolution authorizing the payment of funds in a later year and <br /> for more than one fiscal year for a multi-year lease to purchase EKG Defibrillators and AEDs to be deployed <br /> at all Medic and Fire Stations in the Department. The lease would be for a term of six (6) years. The <br /> estimated lease cost is $12,072.49 per month for a seventy two (72) month term. <br /> Payments will commence after delivery. <br /> The Department is requesting a waiver from Finance Committee and have this request heard by the Council. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The Hawai'i Fire Department is in serious need of upgrading its lifesaving EKG Defibrillators and AEDs. The <br /> age of the Department's current frontline EKGs (31) range from 5 to 10 years and our AEDs (53 units) are 7 <br /> years old. According to national medical equipment standards, 7 years is considered the end of life cycle for <br /> critical sensitive medical equipment. <br /> The Department has been utilizing the Zoll EKG Defibrillator and AED product for the past 25 year. <br /> Consequently, the decision to make a change to the Physio Control EKG Defibrillators and AEDs was not <br /> taken lightly <br /> The Department started its research 2 years ago in anticipation of upgrading our cardiac care system in <br /> which it conducted a head to head field trial with both products. The Department also has done extensive <br /> research into the science and technological capabilities, looked at the frontend and backend support, and <br /> what would financially best fit the Department's EMS Budget. This lease purchase option will allow the <br /> 0 <br /> and replace 100% of its EKG and AED units with the <br /> Hawai i Fire Department the ability to upgradep <br /> opportunity to either own or trade in the equipment at the end of the 6-year lease to address the 7-year end <br /> of life issue. <br /> -{�• -= OCT 3 0 2016 <br /> SIGNED: DATE: <br /> Department Head <br />
