REQUEST: <br /> Requesting a bill for an ordinance to create a revenue and expenditure account in Coordinated Services <br /> budget entitled "DBEDT Social Trans Grant" in the amount of$750,000. <br /> Requesting a Resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the State <br /> of Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development &Tourism in the same amount. <br /> The Department requests that this bill be waived from Finance Committee and proceed directly for Council's <br /> review to help expedite this project. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The State of Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development &Tourism has awarded the County of <br /> Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation $750,000 to assist the Elderly Activities Division. The goals and <br /> objectives of this initiative are to meet the greatest need for seniors, which is paratransit transportion for <br /> those senior who no longer can drive or live in rural or remote districts allowing them to access social senior <br /> ctivities and allowing them to "Age in Place"for as long as possible. <br /> Funding will be used to hire 2 staff to assist with transporting of the seniors, provide equipment which <br /> includes vehicles and the necessary maintenance expenses to provide transportation to the seniors, Training <br /> of staff, printing of brochures for the program and program supplies such as first aid kit, clip boards. <br /> d ,__ <br /> SIGNED: DATE: <br /> Department <br />
