�JtY Os N11 COUNTY OF HAWAII _• STATE OF HAWAII 7rE Cf •N►.1 RESOLUTION NO. 75 19 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA O PUNA FOR THE PAHOA ROUNDABOUT LANDSCAPING. WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to assure critical habitat for native species and open space for future generations through environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watch -dogging, and land trusting; and WHEREAS, Malama O Puna was granted a contract with the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation to provide and maintain landscaping features at the Pahoa Roundabout on Highway 130; and WHEREAS, the Pahoa Roundabout is often a motorist's first introduction to the historical town of Pahoa and Puna Makai, which emphasizes the significance of properly maintained and visually pleasing highway features; and WHEREAS, investments in a handsomely -landscaped entry will also increase civic pride, reduce crime, increase tourism, and promote the overall revitalization of Pahoa and the Puna District; and WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is requesting funds to enable them to maintain the landscaping features at the Pahoa Roundabout including mulch, plants, herbicide, and liability insurance; and WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Department of Research and Development supports developing local economies that are diverse, stable, and increase the economic contribution of the visitor industry to Hawaii Island; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Malama O Puna for the Pahoa Roundabout Landscaping.
