COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ••,,''7T.pF.N.. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 106 19 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE AMERICAN <br /> NATIONAL RED CROSS FOR ITS HOME FIRE CAMPAIGN. <br /> WHEREAS, the American National Red Cross is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that <br /> fulfills its humanitarian mission by coming to the aid of disaster victims,teaching people how to <br /> save lives, and providing emergency communication between deployed military service <br /> members and their families in times of crisis; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Home Fire Campaign is an initiative by the American National Red <br /> Cross that aims to transcend fire response by proactively taking steps to reduce home fire deaths <br /> by half through the installation of free smoke alarms, replacement of smoke alarms batteries, and <br /> provision of fire safety education in the homes of vulnerable populations like the elderly and <br /> disabled; and <br /> WHEREAS,the American National Red Cross reports that they are the only <br /> organization who installs smoke alarms free of charge and that their efforts have saved hundreds <br /> of lives and made hundreds of thousands of households safer; and <br /> WHEREAS,the American National Red Cross is requesting funds to cover the partial <br /> salary of a staff person to recruit,train, and deploy the volunteer workforce to carry out its Home <br /> Fire Campaign; and <br /> WHEREAS, the goal of the Hawai`i Fire Department is to protect the citizens and <br /> visitors of Hawai`i County by developing, implementing, and maintaining program strategies <br /> that provide for a positive influence in reducing the effects of fire-related incidents which would <br /> produce losses throughout Hawai`i County such as loss of life,property, and socioeconomic and <br /> environmental impacts; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Hawaii Fire <br /> Department to provide a grant to the American National Red Cross for its Home Fire Campaign. <br /> - I <br />
