Chung, Council Chair <br /> and Members of the County Council <br /> County of Hawai`i <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> Hilo, HI 96720 <br /> Dear Chair Chung and Council Members: <br /> SUBJECT: Change of Zone Application (REZ 18-000232) <br /> Applicant: 64-560 Mamalahoa LLC <br /> Request: A-40a to A-5a <br /> Tax Map Key: 6-4-017:043 <br /> The Leeward Planning Commission, at its duly held public hearing on February 21, 2019, <br /> reviewed and acted on the above-referenced request for a Change of Zone from an Agricultural- <br /> 40 acres (A-40a)to an Agricultural-5 acres (A-5a)zoning district. The property is located on the <br /> north side of Mamalahoa Highway, approximately 0.42 miles west of White Road and <br /> approximately 150'feet east of Pu`u Manu Place, Pu'ukapu Homesteads, 2nd Series, South <br /> Kohala, Hawaii. <br /> At its meeting, a motion was made to forward a favorable recommendation for Change of Zone <br /> Application REZ 18-000232 to the County Council as recommended by the Planning Director. <br /> This motion failed with a 2-4 vote. Subsequently, a motion was made to forward an unfavorable <br /> recommendation to the County Council, citing concerns over flooding control and the applicant's <br /> request to allow two driveway access points to Mamalahoa Highway. This motion passed with a <br /> 4-2 vote. <br /> Therefore, for your information,we are enclosing the staff Background Report, the Planning <br /> Director's favorable Recommendation, and the PowerPoint presentation.
