No. 176 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i <br /> TIME: 1:06 p.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawai`i County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Safety, to which was referred Communication No. 176, reports as <br /> follows: <br /> Communication No. 176, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated March 8, 2019, nominates <br /> John Bertsch to the Police Commission. <br /> Mr. Bertsch stated that he is honored to serve and appreciates the opportunity. He gave some <br /> comments on his prior service. He mentioned that he was able to sit at the table previously as a <br /> police chief was being considered. He understands that the commission is bound by the Charter <br /> and is pleased that the Salary Commission will be coming forth with revisions that pertain to the <br /> salary for the position. Hopefully with revisions to the salary more applicants will come forward <br /> to apply for the position to give a broader selection process. <br /> Council Members as a whole are in support of the nomination.
