COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />JNtVfOF M,��' <br />1rE OF•HF,.I� <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAIIAN <br />SANCTUARY INC. FOR ITS PLANT ALOHA PROJECT. <br />WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that conducts <br />Hawaiian cultural and agricultural education programs for the Puna community; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the projects of Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is Plant Aloha, which <br />provides a year-long series of free classes on various natural and sustainable farming systems to <br />encourage farming practices in alignment with Native Hawaiian cultural protocols and to <br />increase local food production and food security in Hawaii; and <br />WHEREAS, the Plant Aloha project also aims to provide education, guidance, and <br />motivation for sustainable farming, which can serve as a critical resource for Puna residents who <br />are recovering from the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the recent Kilauea <br />eruption; and <br />WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is requesting funds for facilitators who will <br />conduct the Plant Aloha sustainable farming classes; and <br />WHEREAS, the Plant Aloha project falls within the Department of Research and <br />Development's mission to facilitate leadership and education that support and promote <br />agricultural sustainability on Hawaii Island; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, <br />Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br />resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br />activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br />Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br />Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. for its Plant Aloha <br />project. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
