REQUEST: <br /> This is a request for a resolution authorizing the County (via the Department of Research and Development) <br /> to enter into an agreement with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, State of Hawaii, to receive $35,000.00 for the <br /> purpose of developing the Hawaii Island Tourism Strategic Plan to include current data, measures and <br /> actions that reflect the knowledge and desires of Hawaii Island tourism stakeholders, establish overall <br /> direction for the County of Hawaii Department of Research and Development Tourism Program to move on <br /> actions in collaboration with stakeholders, and identify strategies for developing an island based visitor <br /> industry that flows from the community. This is also a request to submit a bill for an Ordinance to appropriate <br /> the funds. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> A goal of the Department of Research and Development Tourism Program is to increase communication, <br /> interaction and understanding between industry stakeholders, residents and the visitor industry, and ensure <br /> the integrity of our unique sense of place and appropriate recognition of our host culture. The Hawaii Island <br /> Tourism Strategic Plan (TSP) will reflect Hawaii Island's commitment to the vision of the 2015 TSP, "Ola ka <br /> Aina, Ola ke Kanaka - Healthy Land, Healthy People, and the understanding that by making the island more <br /> connected, we create healthy land, healthy people and a healthy visitor industry. Key elements of the the <br /> TSP will include current challenges and opportunities, overall strategies to achieve "Healthy Land, Healthy <br /> People,"goals, objectives and measures that align with the vision and with the Hawaii Tourism Authority <br /> "Collective Ambition," and the partners and their roles in achieving the TSP goals and objectives.
