RESOLUTION NO. 244 19 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO D.A.R.E. HAWAII FOR ITS 2020 DARE DAY CELEBRATION EVENT IN WEST HAWAII. WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. HAWAII is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that teaches our youth to make safe and responsible decisions, to resist alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and violence, to avoid risky situations, and to lead a safe and healthy life; and WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. HAWAII is conducting a West Hawai`i DARE Day, to celebrate the graduation of students from various schools in West Hawai`i who complete the DARE 10- week Drug Abuse Resistance Educational curriculum, in May, 2020; and WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. HAWAII has requested funds to pay for student activities and prizes for those in attendance, to recognize their accomplishments; and WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Hawai`i Police Department is to support youth programs, such as D.A.R.E. HAWAII, that promote alcohol- and drug-free events that teach our youth to make safe and responsible choices; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Hawai`i Police Department to provide a grant to D.A.R.E. HAWAII for student activities and prizes for its 2020 DARE Day Celebration event in West Hawai`i. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:
