FOR ITS AWARD RECOGNITION LUNCHEON IN WEST HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization <br /> dedicated to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities improve their quality of life <br /> through sports; and <br /> WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. holds year-round sports training and athletic <br /> competitions for children and adults to help develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and <br /> skill, experience joy, build friendships, and participate in the sharing of gifts with fellow athletes, <br /> families, and the community in West Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is organizing an Awards Recognition <br /> Luncheon on January 25, 2020, in West Hawai`i to honor the athletes, coaches, volunteers, <br /> family, and service organizations; and <br /> WHEREAS, Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. is requesting funds to help offset the costs <br /> for food, refreshments, games, leis, and awards for nine different categories; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports partnerships with other <br /> recreation providers and community organizations, such as Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc., that <br /> provide fun and healthy activities for the public; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Special Olympics Hawai`i Inc. for its Award <br /> Recognition Luncheon in West Hawai`i. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
