• <br /> ♦IV OF pt <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII = �/_• STATE OF HAWAII <br /> 'TE•OF•NP'' <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 291 19 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE AAUW KONA <br /> EDUCATIONAL FUND TO ASSIST WITH THE 2019 GIRLS EXPLORING MATH <br /> AND SCIENCE EVENT IN WEST HAWAII. <br /> WHEREAS, the AAUW Kona Educational Fund (AAUW) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization that promotes educational activities for women and girls and encourages higher <br /> education to the young women of West Hawai`i; and <br /> WHEREAS, AAUW is coordinating its annual Girls Exploring Math and Science <br /> (GEMS) event for fifth-grade girls on December 10, 2019, with lessons in math, science, and <br /> technology through hands-on activities and workshops led by women with careers in math and/or <br /> science to encourage the next generation of STEM professionals; and <br /> WHEREAS, AAUW has requested financial assistance to defray the costs for meals and <br /> rental of a hotel conference room for this 2019 GEMS event; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports this event as it falls within <br /> its program goals and objectives to provide juvenile delinquency prevention and to support <br /> educational opportunities for females to help them to become future community leaders; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to AAUW Kona Educational Fund to assist with the <br /> 2019 GEMS event in West Hawai`i. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
