COUNTY OF HAWAII ,,, 4 I*- STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 373 19 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA TO PURCHASE UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT FOR THE PAHOA PUEOS. WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been serving the Puna District for more than 20 years and is acting as the fiscal agent for the Pahoa Pueos tee- ball and coach pitch teams; and WHEREAS, the Pahoa Pueos tee-ball and coach pitch teams are comprised of volunteer coaches and after-school Puna youth ages five through 12, most of whom come from low- income families and some having more than one child participating in a team; and WHEREAS, the high costs of uniforms and equipment present a financial hardship to the low-income families and without assistance, most of the children would not be able to participate in these after-school activities; and WHEREAS, participating in outdoor activities provides physical, social, emotional, and intellectual benefits; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funding assistance to purchase uniforms to include shirts, pants, caps, and rain jackets and equipment to include balls, bats, and a catcher's suit for the Pahoa Pueos tee-ball and coach pitch teams; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation promotes organized recreation, athletics, and other leisure time activities for the youth of Hawai`i Island; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to Malama 0 Puna for uniforms and equipment for the Pahoa Pueos.
