_,Mwos N4 . <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII .E��•,,=','•,,=','W_•' STATE OF HAWAII <br /> '...k4 OF MF':s <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 374 19 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HUA 0 LAHUI FOR <br /> THE QUEEN KAPI`OLANI CANOE PROJECT. <br /> WHEREAS, Hua 0 Lahui is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is supporting and <br /> initiating programs for the betterment of Native Hawaiians and Hawai`i through education on <br /> culture, economy, and health; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hua 0 Lahui will be carving a replica of the canoe that Queen Kapi`olani <br /> gifted to the Smithsonian Institution in 1887, which is recognized as the oldest intact Hawaiian <br /> canoe in existence, and the dedicated carvers who are working on the replica hope that this <br /> project will help to perpetuate traditional Hawaiian culture and honor the story of Queen <br /> Kapi`olani's journey; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 2020, carvers of Hua 0 Lahui will be doing carving demonstrations at <br /> the Merrie Monarch Festival in Hilo and at the Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture on 0'ahu <br /> while representing Hawai`i County; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hua 0 Lahui is requesting funds to cover expenses such as materials, <br /> supplies, and shipping costs for the Queen Kapi`olani Canoe Project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports opportunities that meet <br /> the needs of the Big Island community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of our rich <br /> heritage; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Hua 0 Lahui for expenses related to the Queen <br /> Kapi`olani Canoe Project. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
