COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII •.�TE OF-N�'� RESOLUTION NO. 393 19 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA FOR EXPENSES RELATED TO THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC WORKSHOP ON RAT LUNGWORM DISEASE. WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been actively engaged in invasive species issues for over 20 years and whose mission is to assure critical habitat for native species and open space through environmental education and advocacy; and WHEREAS, the University of Hawai`i at Hilo is sponsoring the 6th International Scientific Workshop on Rat Lungworm Disease on January 5-8, 2020, at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel with over 200 participants from Asia, Australia, Europe, and other countries presenting recent developments in the detection, treatment, prevention, education, and ecology of rat lungworm disease; and WHEREAS, rat lungworm is a disease caused by the ingestion of a parasite, often passed on from snails or slugs, which can affect the brain and spinal cord and lead to debilitating headaches, neck stiffness, paralysis, and sometimes death; and WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funds to cover expenses for the venue, educational materials, and accommodations for the presenters of the 6th International Scientific Workshop on Rat Lungworm Disease; and WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports innovative agriculture research to strengthen the production of food and product marketing; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna for expenses related to the 6th International Scientific Workshop on Rat Lungworm Disease. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
