STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 410 19 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PAHOA <br /> SCHOOLS SUPPORT FOUNDATION TO ENHANCE LEARNING, ENGAGE <br /> STUDENTS, AND AID IN STUDENT RETENTION. <br /> WHEREAS, The Pahoa Schools Support Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br /> organization whose mission is to supplement and fund activities to promote educational <br /> opportunities at Pahoa High and Intermediate School, Pahoa Elementary School, and Keonepoko <br /> Elementary School; and <br /> WHEREAS, Pahoa public schools provide limited opportunities to create enhanced <br /> learning experiences outside of the standard curriculum; and <br /> WHEREAS, enhanced learning experiences positively influence student motivation and <br /> engagement, thereby improving academic outcomes and promoting improved attendance and <br /> retention, an issue that all Pahoa public schools are currently struggling with; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Pahoa Schools Support Foundation is requesting funds for field trips, <br /> specialized supplies and equipment, supplemental reading materials, and other related expenses <br /> to help with special project proposals submitted by teachers, so that additional methods to <br /> engage and inspire students within respective curriculums can be developed; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports drug-free and alcohol-free <br /> activities that promote and improve the wellbeing and quality of life for Hawai`i Island residents; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to The Pahoa Schools Support Foundation for special project <br /> proposals that can enhance learning, engage students, and aid in student retention. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
