If confirmed, she would serve a term to end December 31, 2024. <br /> I <br /> A 58-year resident of Hawaii who previously served on the commission between 2013 and <br /> 2017, Ms. Lui is employed at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park, where she assists <br /> with ethno-historical and archaeological reports. She is a volunteer with numerous community <br /> organizations and is not affiliated with any political party. <br /> Ms. Lui was invited to speak before the Council,thanking them for the opportunity and <br /> providing further information on her background and experience, including her interest in <br /> genealogy, cultural preservation, preservation of places, and desire to share the past with the <br /> community. She acknowledged and thanked her parents who were also present in the Council <br /> Chambers for the nomination. <br /> Council Member Tim Richards, thanked Ms. Lui for her service to the community, noting her <br /> impressive credentials and his admiration for her purpose-driven approach to cultural <br /> preservation. <br /> Council Member Maile David wholeheartedly supported the nomination, adding, "in order to <br /> move forward, we need to acknowledge and respect the past." <br /> Council Member Rebecca Villegas noted her gratitude to have someone with so much <br /> experience and perspective serving as it is "imperative for the resiliency of District 7 and <br /> continued growth to have conservation and recognition of our cultural sites." <br /> Council Member Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder urged Ms. Lui to look deeply into why the Cultural <br /> Resources Commission was created and to use that knowledge to make good decisions. <br /> PC Report No.:42 <br />
