Hawaii County Council-25 November 3, 2415
MR. PALEKA: Still pending.
MS. KAMAKA: There not, okay, MMI, Maximum Medical Improvement, rated
and ready for closure. There litigious, depending on who you're speaking to.
Complex claims.
MR. PALEKA: Okay, so none of them are ratable and ready to have a—okay.
MS. KAMAKA: No. They're controverted.
MR. PALEKA: Okay. Thank you, Charmaine. It's good for people to know.
CHR. KANUHA: Thank you, Mr. Paleka. I don't think there's any need for this
one to go into executive session unless anyone has a dying wish to go and get
some numbers. But if there's no more discussion—Ms. Eoff—let me just ask of
Ms. Eoff real quickly. Ms. Eoff, are you okay?
MS. EOFF: Yes, thank you.
CHR. KANUEA: Okay, Mr. Chung.
MR. CHUNG: We're going to be locked into like two year contract, or how is
this thing going to work? Can we—?
MS. STEBBINS: In the past, it hasn't been structured where they start and end
date, just because of the nature of the work. I mean,we hire them to see claims
through to their completion, just basing off of what was done in the past. We—it
looks like the office would come before the Council to seek authorizations to
either extend or provide additional funding to the existing contract every couple
of years. It also—.I think it's a good idea, you know, once this contract expires,
probably to do another procurement just to keep the process open and
competitive.
MR. CHUNG: Okay. And you guys will be keeping a tab on their bills, right?
MS. STEBBINS: Charmaine's office works very closely with—
MS. KAMAKA: We watch the funding, and if the funding is running low,we
come before you again and ask for additional funding. It comes from the general
fund account. The general fund, workers' compensation account. So it's not new
monies, it's existing monies.
MR. CHUNG: But, let's say it's getting out of hand, and hopefully it doesn't.
MS. KAMAKA: When you say"out of hand," like expensive?
Page 76
