STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 467 20 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO GOING HOME <br /> HAWAII TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO ITS EAST HAWAII <br /> PU`UHONUA WELLNESS CENTER PROGRAM. <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to re- <br /> integrate former offenders into the community and workplace and to stop recurrences of crime <br /> recidivism on Hawai`i Island; and <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i works in collaboration with more than 50 public and <br /> private entities to provide a variety of support services to former offenders, including housing, <br /> case management, and referrals to mental health and/or substance abuse treatment programs; and <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i's East Hawai`i Pu'uhonua Wellness Center program <br /> provides social services for offenders that are interwoven with the Native Hawaiian concepts of a <br /> place of peace, safety, and healing, and addresses the issue of Native Hawaiians being <br /> overrepresented at every stage of the criminal justice system; and <br /> WHEREAS, Going Home Hawai`i is requesting funding assistance to defray housing <br /> costs, utilities, and supplies that are necessary expenses for this program; and <br /> WHEREAS, participants receive case management services provided by Going Home <br /> Hawai`i to link them to financial benefits for which they may be eligible, and assist them in <br /> obtaining gainful employment to afford program fees on a monthly basis, which will ensure that <br /> the program remains self-sustainable beyond initial funding assistance; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney supports improving the criminal <br /> justice system by identifying areas of need and working collaboratively with other criminal <br /> justice agencies and the community; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 3 will be appropriated to the Office of the <br /> Prosecuting Attorney to provide a grant to Going Home Hawai`i for its East Hawai`i Pu'uhonua <br /> Wellness Center program. <br />
