'_�i,1Ej, 20 <br /> _ <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT FOR EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH THE <br /> PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION OF A HARDENED CANOPY SHELTER TO <br /> PROTECT THE FIRE ENGINE APPARATUS AT THE HAWAIIAN PARADISE PARK <br /> STATION. <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaii Fire Department's Station 18 in Hawaiian Paradise Park serves <br /> over 7,000 HPP residents and provides support to more than 9,000 residents in neighboring <br /> communities in Kea`au and Pahoa; and <br /> WHEREAS, in 2019, Station 18 responded to 1,672 emergency calls and incidents in <br /> HPP and is expected to respond to more than 1,900 before the end of 2020; and <br /> WHEREAS, approximately sixty percent of the population living within the primary <br /> response area for Station 18 are considered low to moderate income households, which often <br /> face greater barriers to accessing medical care and are more at risk for health challenges and <br /> chronic disease; and <br /> WHEREAS, the fire engine at Station 18 is a key apparatus that must remain in good <br /> condition to support firefighters in their work to save and protect lives and property, and to <br /> ensure timely response to fires, natural disasters, and other emergencies; and <br /> WHEREAS, due to critically limited covered space at Station 18, the fire engine is <br /> currently parked outside in order to store an ambulance that was recently assigned to the district <br /> and helps support emergency response in the region; and <br /> WHEREAS, exposure to natural elements has caused water to leak into the fire engine's <br /> air conditioning unit and caused some damage to electronic components; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Fire Department is requesting funds to purchase a <br /> hardened canopy shelter for the fire engine apparatus; now,therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Hawaii Fire <br /> Department for expenses associated with the purchase and installation of a hardened canopy <br /> shelter to protect the fire engine apparatus at the Hawaiian Paradise Park Station. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br /> transferred/appropriated the following amount as set forth below: <br /> A <br />
