Messina <br />Wil Okabe <br /> <br />Deputy Director <br />Managing Director <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION <br />101 Pauahi Street, Suite 6 Hilo, Hawai‘i 96720 <br />(808) 961-8311 Fax (808) 961-8411 <br />Email: parks_recreation@hawaiicounty.gov <br />http://www.hawaiicounty.gov/parks-and-recreation/ <br /> <br />May 9, 2019 <br /> <br />NEWS RELEASE <br /> <br /> <br />Lihiwai Street in Hilo Closed May 20–24 for Debris Removal <br /> <br />The County of Hawai‘i Department of Parks and Recreation announces that a section of <br />Lihiwai Street, located within Lili‘uokalani Gardens, between the entrance to Mokuola <br />(Coconut Island) and the Isle’s parking lot, will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian <br />through-traffic from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, from Monday, May 20 to Friday, <br />May 24 for debris removal. <br /> <br />Access to Mokuola (Coconut Island) via Keli‘ipio Place and access to the parking area <br />at the southwest end of the Lili‘uokalani Gardens (commonly known as “Isles”) will be <br />open during these times. Likewise, most of Lili‘uokalani Gardens will remain open, with <br />some areas along Lihiwai Street closed to park users by safety barricades. <br /> <br />The Department will be using heavy equipment to remove large logs and other debris <br />deposited along the shoreline in this area by Hurricane Lane. <br /> <br />The Department appreciates the public’s understanding while cleanup efforts are done <br />to ensure the safety of park users, boaters, and ocean enthusiasts. <br /> <br />For more information, please call Maurice Messina at 961-8311. <br /> <br /> <br />County of Hawai‘i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer. <br /> <br /> <br />
