Box 641
Hilo, HI 96721
Dear Ms. Tolentino:
Thank you for your letter of May 28, 2019 regarding the unsanitary conditions at
Mooheau Park. I completely agree with what you wrote, and I appreciate your concern
for restoring our quality of life.
I'm very happy to report that just a couple of days after you wrote your letter, our
Department of Parks and Recreation crews did a deep cleansing of Mooheau
Bandstand and Mooheau Park. The clean-up was extremely thorough, and I hope you
will take the opportunity to see the tremendous job our County workers did.
Through HOPE Services, shelters was found for several of the homeless people
who had congregated at Mooheau Bandstand and Mooheau Park, and security
personnel are posted to ensure that the homeless do not return to these facilities.
Our firm intention is to maintain the Mooheau facilities in good, clean condition,
which our community, and especially our keiki and families, expect and deserve.
Aloha,
Harry Kim
MAYOR
County of'Hawaii is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
