ABOUT THE COMMISSION <br />The Charter Commission is composed of 11 members from the six ancient <br />districts of Hawai`i Island: Kona, Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo, Puna, and Ka`u. The <br />Commissioners were nominated by the Mayor on June 22, 2018 and confirmed by <br />the Council on June 29, 2018. Since the requirement of the formation of a Charter <br />Commission every 10 years since 1979, this is the fifth such Charter Commission. <br />Since 1963, however, this is the eighth Charter Commission of the County. <br />For the 2018-2020 Commission, Commissioners were sworn in on or <br />prior to July 13, 2018. The Commission is comprised of the following officers, <br />members, and staff: <br />Douglass Shipman Adams - Chair <br />Jennifer Zelko-Schlueter - Vice -chair <br />William Carthage Bergin <br />Michelle Galimba <br />Paul K. Hamano <br />Kevin D. Hopkins <br />Bobby Jean Leithead Todd <br />Sarah K. Rice <br />Christopher John Imiloa Roehrig <br />Marcia A.K. Saquing <br />Donna Mae Springer <br />Staff: <br />Jon Henricks-Analyst/Parliamentarian <br />Shannon Magnuson — Secretary <br />J Yoshimoto-Attorney <br />The Commission is guided by Chapter 50 of the Hawai`i Revised Statutes, <br />Articles XIII and XV of the Charter, and the Commission's rules of procedure. <br />Chapter 50 of the Hawai`i Revised Statutes requires that the Commission submit <br />to the County Council a report in writing which includes the Commission's <br />activities, findings, and recommendations, and a draft of any proposed <br />amendments to the Charter. <br />2 <br />
