December 31, 2019 <br />Honorable Harry Kim Mayor County of Hawai'i 25 Aupuni Street <br />Hilo, Hawai'i 96720 Dear Mayor Kim: <br />Attached is the 2019 Annual Report of the County of Hawai'i Public Access, Open Space <br />and Natural Resource Preservation Commission (PONC), pursuant to Section 2-217 (2) of the <br />Hawai'i County Code. <br />(Insert here highlights of the year. You may wish to mention Passing of Cynthia Nazara, <br />retirement of Amy Self and her replacement, Ronald Kim. There were 14 nominations, XX grant <br />applications, and the commission’s concerns with charter changes. ) <br />The good people of Hawai’i have suggested many properties for the County to preserve into <br />perpetuity. Looking to preserve the natural resources of Hawai’i, our commission has reviewed <br />and ranked these seventeen submissions for your consideration. We have also reviewed <br />grant applications for communities to malamaPONC acquired properties. <br />The work of our commission was possible with the support of our county staff. We are thankful <br />for the time and efforts of Commission Secretary, Maxine Cutler; Property Manager, Hamana <br />Ventura, Deputy Corporation Counsel, Amy Self (retired April 2019) and Ronald Kim. <br />Again, we are thankful for the support of the County of Hawai‘i and it was a pleasure working <br />with communities, non-profits, and other agencies to preserve Hawai‘i’s cultural and natural <br />resources. <br />Mahalo Nui Loa <br />Chair Kekaulike Tomich <br />Commissioners: (1) E.
