<br />"Civil service" and “civil service positions” means all positions within a <br />jurisdiction that are not exempted by Hawai‘i Revised Statutes, Sections 46-33, <br />76-16, or 76-77, or by other law and must be filled through civil service <br />recruitment procedures based on merit. <br /> <br />"Civil service appointment" means an appointment to a civil service <br />position from an appropriate eligible list. <br /> <br />"Civil service employee" means an employee who has met all <br />requirements for membership in the civil service under Hawai‘i Revised Statutes, <br />Section 76-27. <br /> <br />"Civil service law" means Hawai‘i Revised Statutes, Chapter 76, as <br />amended. Unless the context of a specific rule clearly indicates otherwise, all <br />terms used herein shall have the same meaning as in the civil service law. <br /> <br />"Civil service recruitment procedure" means the process of seeking <br />applicants and determining their qualifications for civil service appointment. <br /> <br />"Civil service system" means the merit system. See Merit System. <br /> <br />"Class” or “class of work" means a group of positions that reflect sufficiently <br />similar duties and responsibilities such that the same title and the same pay <br />range may apply to each position allocated to the class. <br /> <br />"Class specification" means the official document approved by the <br />director, providing a formalized summary of the nature and scope of work, duties <br />and responsibilities, level of difficulty and authority, and minimum qualification <br />requirements for a class of work. <br /> <br />"Classification” means the process of establishing an occupational <br />framework and grouping positions on the basis of the kind and level of work and <br />knowledge, skills, competencies, and qualifications required. <br /> <br />"Classification system" means classes of positions arranged in a logical and <br />systematic order. <br /> <br />"Competitive examination" means an examination from which an eligible <br />list is established. <br /> <br />"Continuous recruitment announcement" means an announcement of a <br />competitive recruitment without a closing date for which applications are <br />received on a continuous basis. <br /> <br />"County" means the County of Hawai‘i. <br /> <br />"Day" means calendar day unless otherwise specified. <br /> <br />1-4 <br /> <br />
