The target groups are: age 60 and older; family caregivers of <br />those aged 60 and older; anyone planning for their own needs after age 60. <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF SERVICES:The Executive Office on Aging (EOA) is the designated lead agency for <br />coordination of a statewide system of aging and caregiver support services in the State of Hawai‘i, as <br />authorized by federal and state laws. EOA is the principal office in state government responsible for the <br />performance, development, and control of programs, policies, and activities on behalf of elders. <br /> <br />SERVICES OFFERED: <br />The federal Older Americans Act establishes EOA as the state unit on aging to administer federal funding <br />for elderly support services, nutrition services, preventive health services, elder rights protection, and <br />family caregiver support services. Chapter 349 of the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes establishes the Executive <br />Office on Aging as the focal point for all matters relating to older adults’needs and the coordination and <br />development of evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention programs and caregiver support <br />services within the State of Hawai‘i. <br />Other specific programs within EOA include: <br />1. The provides information, outreach, and advocacy for residents of <br />long-term care facilities to exercise their rights. <br />2. Senior Medicare Patrol Hawai‘i (SMP Hawai‘i) provides information on how to prevent, detect, <br />and report Medicare fraud, abuse, and billing errors through community outreach and education, <br />and free counseling. <br />3. Hawai‘i State Health Insurance Assistance Program (Hawai‘i SHIP) provides free health <br />insurance information, education, counseling, and referral for individuals with Medicare (of any <br />age), their families, and caregivers with questions about Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medigap, <br />and Medicare Part D - prescription drug benefit.
