AGENCY: FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAMFGP Program Specialist: PHONE: (808) 933-8635 TYPE:State FAX: (808) 933-8859 MAIN OFFICE: Aging & Disabilities Resource Center 1055 Kino‘ole Street, Suite 201 Hilo, HI 96720 ELIGIBILITY: 55 years of age Income eligibility requirement - determined annually Interest in working with children and youth SUMMARY OF SERVICES:Offers low income older persons an opportunity to serve children and youth ages birth to 21 with special or exceptional needs in a wide variety of settings – agencies, schools 3.15 an hour non-taxable stipend and can work up to 35hours a week. Each Foster Grandparent is required to render service of 5 hours per week or more. For additional benefits and income guidelines, contact program office. SERVICES OFFERED: Enrollees work under the supervision of a counselor or teacher and assist with a variety of activities i.e. literacy, other academics needs and personal needs. Each FGP is given pre- assignment training to prepare them to adjust to their service settings. Following the pre-assignment training, each new Foster Grandparent must have a physical examination with a doctor of their choice, also the fingerprinting has to be done before the training, these at the expense of the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP). These positive results with finalize acceptance into the FGP. ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE DISABLED: Yes.
