CHILLINGWORTH: And we are now in the
3
process of evaluating the Human Resources director to
4
see whether we keep him for another year.
5
MS. HUGHES: How long has the current one
6
been in the position?
7
CHAIR: Since last year. Last year?
8
MR. HALVORSON: He was acting for a while.
9
MR. CHILLINGWORTH: He was acting for a
10
while, and then he took over, and we are currently
11
giving the other members of the County administration
12
an opportunity to give him a rating and then return
13
those ratings to us before we meet and evaluate his
14
current status. So, the County charter gave us the
15
responsibility of hiring and firing the Human Resources
16
director in order to try and take politics out of the
17
hiring process; so that's what it's doing here.
18
CHAIR: So up until, I think, around the year
19
2000 or so, all chairs of all of the departments and
20
agencies served at the pleasure of the city mayor, and
21
commissions were created to depoliticize that process.
22
To be terminated as an employee of the County
23
is always a process. You don't just get canned.
24
Employees have the right to fight for their job
25
depending on which of the three pools that they are in,

ISLAND COURT REPORTING & TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES
(808) 933-9800
