May 6, 2019 <br />Date: February 13, 2020 <br />Time: 11 AM <br />Frequency: Every 3 Hours <br />Update #: 1 <br />This is a Civil Defense Wind Advisory message for Thursday, February 13th at 1 in the <br />afternoon. <br />The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the interior areas of <br />Hawaii Island and the Summits of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea until this evening. <br />Winds are forecast for elevations between 5,000 and 8,000 feet to be 20 to 35 MPH <br />with gusts of 50 MPH. Winds at the summits are forecast to be 35 to 50 MPH with <br />gusts of 65 MPH. <br />Due to the Wind Advisory, please take the following precautions; <br />• Down slope winds on Saddle Road, in Waikoloa, and in Kawaihae could become <br />higher than normal. <br />• Secure outdoor items that could be affected by wind. <br />• Be aware that downed trees, power disruptions, and road closures may occur <br />without notice. <br />Also, the National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for east facing <br />shores of Hawaii Island for North Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo, Puna, and Kau District <br />through tomorrow. <br />A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and <br />dangerous currents could cause injury or death. <br />Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are in effect; <br />• Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming <br />difficult and dangerous. <br />• Beach -goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety <br />officials and exercise caution. <br />Stay tuned to your radio for updates and changes in conditions. <br />Thank you for listening. <br />This is your Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency. <br />
