<br /> <br />DIRECTOR’S INFORMATIONAL REPORT <br />TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT COMMISSION <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 26, 2020 <br /> <br />CURRENT LEGISLATION <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />DIRECTOR’S INFORMATIONAL UPDATES <br /> <br />1. Status of the proposed Pāhala and Nāālehu Wastewater Treatment Plants. ʻ <br /> <br />2. Status of the Kealakehe Wastewater Treatment Plant R-1 Upgrade Project. <br /> <br />3. Status of sewer inflow and infiltration on Aliʻi Drive (requested by Commissioner Gaffney <br />to be provided at each meeting). <br /> <br />4. Information on the Wastewater Division’s new CCTV truck’s instrumentation, whether it <br />can do conductivity testing, and how many feet of sewer line it has checked. <br /> <br />5. Presentation on the draft update to the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan by <br />George Hayducsko, Recycling Coordinator. <br /> <br />SOLID WASTE DIVISION PROJECTS AND UPDATES <br /> <br />1. OPERATIONS <br />SWD held several public meetings at locations all around the island to communicate <br />with residents about upcoming changes to the quantities of refuse that is allowed at all <br />county facilities. These changes include a 3 cubic yard per day limitation for refuse at all <br />sites, as well as limiting disposal of appliances to one per day. SWD is also implementing <br />greenwaste disposal days for the Honokaʻa, Hawi, and Keauhou transfer sta?ons. <br /> <br />2. ADMINISTRATION <br />Personnel: SWD has had to limit some of the services provided to the public at various <br />sites due to a lack of manpower to perform the work. SWD is in the process of hiring <br />additional staff to assist with these deficiencies. <br /> <br />3. RECYCLING SECTION <br />A. INTEGRATED SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN UPDATE: <br />• The 2019 update of the County of Hawaiʻi Integrated Solid Waste Management <br />Plan (ISWMP) is being prepared in compliance with Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes <br /> <br />
