CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date:
MEDIA UPDATE Time:
Frequency:
Update #:
Incident: High Surf Warning
This is a Civil Defense message.
Rev. May 6, 2019
This is a High Surf Advisory message for Friday afternoon, February 28.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for Hawaii Island
from Hawi in North Kohala along the Hamakua Coast and Hilo Bay through Cape
Kumukahi in Puna to South Point in Kau through Sunday evening.
A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and
dangerous currents make swimming difficult and dangerous. You can expect
rough surf of 6 to 8 feet building to 8 to 12 feet late Saturday into Sunday.
Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are issued:
• There are no closures at this time but be aware that beach closures may occur
at any time.
• Beach -goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean
safety officials and exercise caution when entering the water.
You will be informed of any changes in conditions that may affect your safety.
Thank you. Have a safe weekend
This is your Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.
