<br /> <br />CHARTER COMMISSION <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose: To study and review the Hawai‘i County Charter beginning in 1989 and every <br />tenth year thereafter. <br /> <br />Authority: Hawai'i County Charter, Section 15-3, titled Mandatory Charter Review., and <br />Chapter 50, Hawai‘i Revised Statutes. <br /> <br />Appointment: Mayor, with Council approval. Members shall hold office until the amendments <br />or charter are ratified or rejected. <br /> <br />Full Membership: Eleven (11) members. <br /> <br />Specific Representation: No more than six shall belong to the same political party. Membership shall be <br />representative of the various geographical areas of Puna, Kaū, Kona, Kohala, ʻ <br />Hāmākua, and Hilo. <br /> <br />Requirements: Hold at least one public hearing in each of the geographical areas of Puna, Ka‘ū, <br />Kona, Kohala, Hāmākua, and Hilo. <br /> <br />Meetings: Unless otherwise specified, regular meetings will be held on the second Friday <br />of each month, alternating between Hilo and Kailua-Kona, to convene at <br />1:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Financial Disclosure: Members must file Financial Disclosure within 20 working days of taking the <br />oath of office. Thereafter, annual disclosures must be filed on or before January <br />31. The disclosures are confidential and will be kept on file by the Board of <br />Ethics. County Code, Chapter 2, Section 2-91.1. <br /> <br />Qualities: Respected by the community as being community-minded and oriented.
