CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: Friday, March 06, 2020
MEDIA UPDATE Time: 1 PM
Frequency: Every 3 hours
Update #: 1
Incident: High Surf Advisory
This is a Civil Defense High Surf Advisory message for Friday, March 6 at 1 in the
afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for all east facing
shores of Hawaii Island from Hamakua, Hilo, Puna, and Ka'u Districts through this
Sunday.
A High Surf Advisory means surf will be higher than normal, shore break, and
dangerous currents could cause injury or death.
Due to the High Surf Advisory, the following are issued;
• Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and rip currents making swimming
difficult and dangerous.
• Beach-goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean
safety officials and exercise caution.
• Beaches may be closed without notice.
• There are no beach closures at this time.
Stay tuned to your radio for updates and changes in conditions.
Thank you for listening.
Have a safe Aloha Friday.
This is your Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency.
