CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: April 22, 2020
MEDIA UPDATE Time: 5:00 P.M
Update #: 2

Incident: Coronavirus Update
This is a Civil Defense message.
This is a message to all small businesses of Hawaii Island.
The County of Hawaii has been informed that the U.S. Congress and the President are
about to pass legislation on an extension of the paycheck protection program and the
Economic-Disaster-Injury Loans program. This extension will immediately provide funds
for these programs which was quickly exhausted in the previous legislation.
Eligible are small businesses, sole proprietorships, independent contractors, self-
employed persons and private non-profits. Applications are processed through your
banker or credit union. Call them. They receive a commission if your application is
approved.
Know that this program was designed to help you stay open during this difficult time.
Your loan may be fully forgiven if you use 75% of it to keep your workers on payroll. You
can also use the money for rent, utilities or interest on mortgages. What can you lose by
trying? Time is critical as passage is anticipated by tomorrow, Thursday, April 23. Start
now as there will be a rush on these funds.
Good Luck to you.
Have a good day.
This is your Hawaii County Civil Defense.
