May 6, 2019 <br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: 7.24.2020 <br />MEDIA UPDATE <br />This is a Civil Defense message <br />Time: 6pm <br />Frequency: 2 hours <br />Update #: 2 <br />This is a Hurricane Douglas informational message for Friday evening, July 24tH <br />The Central Pacific Hurricane Center has issued a Hurricane Watch for the Island of Hawaii. <br />A hurricane watch means there is a good possibility of Hurricane conditions of damaging <br />winds, surf, and flooding rains occurring anytime within 48 hours. <br />Hurricane Douglas is currently a category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 115 <br />miles -per -hour and is located 665 miles East of Hilo moving west northwest at 20mph. <br />As a precaution, the following public safety measures and recommendations are now in effect: <br />• Oceanfront residents on East facing shores are urged to be on alert for high and dangerous <br />surf conditions. <br />• Boat and aircraft owners should take measures to secure their vessels until the danger <br />passes. <br />• Coastal impacts will increase through the day; complete all preparations early on Saturday for <br />surf and before night fall Saturday for wind. <br />• Be prepared as conditions can change rapidly! <br />• More information on hurricane preparedness, conditions and closures can be found here: <br />h. m/ <br />Civil Defense is monitoring the storm and will keep you informed of any changes that may affect your <br />safety.
