May 6, 2019 <br />CIVIL DEFENSE AGENCY Date: 7-26-2020 <br />MEDIA UPDATE <br />This is a Civil Defense message <br />Time: 5 PM <br />Frequency: 2 hours <br />Update #: NWS Advisory 27 <br />This is a Hurricane Douglas informational message for Sunday evening, July 26th <br />As of 5:00 PM, Sunday the Central Pacific Hurricane Center reports the center of Hurricane Douglas <br />was approximately 90 miles North West of Kahului, Maui at latitude 22.0 N and longitude 157.3 W, <br />moving in a West Northwest direction at a speed of about 16 miles -per -hour. Strongest sustained <br />winds are estimated at 85 miles -per -hour with higher gusts. The present location, strength and track <br />have the hurricane moving away from Hawaii and Maui Counties and no longer pose a threat to <br />Hawaii Island. <br />The following advisories have been issued by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center: <br />The Tropical Storm Warning and Flash Flood Watch have been cancelled for Hawaii Island. <br />The High Surf Warning has been downgraded to a High Surf Advisory for Hawaii Island <br />through tomorrow. <br />The following public safety measures and recommendations are now in effect: <br />• If you are traveling do consult your airline for flight and airport status as Hurricane Douglas is <br />affecting the other islands. <br />• Observation reports throughout the island by the Hawaii County Police and Fire Departments <br />report that all roads are open and no heavy rains, strong winds, nor damaging surf conditions <br />have occurred. <br />• All coastal parks on east facing shores remain closed; conditions will be reassessed on <br />Monday morning. <br />• County Mass Transit will resume normal bus schedule beginning Monday. <br />Do be aware that hurricane season continues into November, so continue to keep yourself informed <br />and updated. You will be informed if any conditions change that may affect your safety. <br />Thank you for listening.
