Applicant replies that there was no need for a variance, sign is smaller than required. Ms. Newlon clarifies that it is a wall sign and it meets the sign code. Letter height doesn't exceed 9"and wall area that doesn't exceed 22 sq. ft. and Master plan for Kailua Kona recommends the use of only three colors, applicant has two. Broad band just above the store front and appears to be proportionate to the size of building. No further questions for staff. Commissioner Roth asks if there were any questions for applicant. Commissioner Sullenberger wanted clarification about the submitted materials that were presented. There is a rectangle that's given as the background to the sign, was that to be a separate background or was it meant to be the actual wall of the building? Applicant clarifies that it will be a separate back panel that would adhere to the wall and will be similar in color. Commissioner Ikeuchi made a motion to approve the application as submitted. Commissioner Crusat seconded the motion of Ikeuchi. There were no further discussion on the motion, a roll call vote was taken by Rosalind Newlon (Staff) and the motion carried with 7 ayes, (Ching, Crusat, Hetherington, Ikeuchi, Kern, Sullenberger, Werchick) and Commissioner (Smith) excused. Chairman Roth confirms that the motion was adopted. ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS Rosalind Newlon (Staff) answered that they were currently reviewing applications and made the decision to have a meeting on July 21, 2020.
