Communication No. 2021-07
From:
Sent: Sunday, June 20, 20214:28 PM
To: Planning - Kona <kona@hawaiicounty.gov>
Cc:
Subject: Could you get me registered to testify ?
Importance: High
MM
I am interested in testifying for the next hearing, if it is considering testimony to mitigate serious
flooding issues in Kona. The photos attached shows the tragic damage to the ocean and billions of Coral
Polyp that die from such flooding. 600,000 coral polyps die per square yard..... In the 3rd photo, that
was just taken this morning from a flood caused by poor land management that occurred yesterday
afternoon after just a 1/2hour rain. We just protected the Coral when spawning a week ago and now
this destroys all the coral and all that effort !!! Areas we put flood controls curbed the problem
whereas areas that didn't, have extremely serious floodings that took mud and contaminants into the
ocean. Tourists were balking at the sight of such poor stewardship of our lands and ocean this
morning...... Sewage, floods, debris are making our Kona unappealing to the tourist. More photos will
be provided. The second photo was a flooding that should not have occurred but was due to pure
disrespect for the land and ocean.
Many Mahalos,
George Yasuda Tiare Lani Coffee, Inc.
Kailua-Kona Bay Prior To Mud Rock Floods
