HAWAII FIRE COMMISSION <br />REGULAR SESSION MINUTES <br />MARCH 10, 2021 <br />AUPUNI CENTER CONFERENCE ROOM <br />101 PAUAHI ST., HILO, HAWAII <br />CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL <br />Vice Chair Corey Luke called the meeting to order at 9:07 a.m. <br />Present: Corey Luke, Vice Chair <br />Benjamin Agdeppa, Commissioner <br />Gregory Henkel, Commissioner <br />Kyle Keamo, Commissioner <br />Shon Magsalin, Commissioner <br />Wesley Mattos, Commissioner <br />Gene Nakashima, Commissioner <br />Daniel Paleka, Commissioner <br />A quorum was present. <br />Also present: Robert Perreira, Acting Fire Chief <br />John Mukai, Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />Josie Pelayo, Secretary <br />PUBLIC STATEMENTS ON AGENDA ITEMS (None.) <br />EXECUTIVE SESSION <br />Vice Chair Luke motioned to meet in executive session to work on the selection of the <br />new Fire Chief and may consult with Corporation Counsel on questions and issues <br />pertaining to the commission's powers, duties, privileges, immunities, and liabilities <br />pursuant to HRS 92-5 (a) (2) and (4) and the Hawaii County Charter Section 13-20 (b). <br />Commissioner Keamo seconded, and it carried unanimously. <br />Executive session convened at 9:16 a.m. <br />Open session reconvened at 3:42 p.m. <br />ACTION ON EXECUTIVE SESSION MATTERS <br />Appointment of the new Fire Chief. <br />Vice Chair Luke motioned to ratify the selection of the Fire Chief, Chief Kazuo Todd. <br />Commissioner Paleka seconded. The motion carried unanimously in favor of ratifying. <br />Commission Henkel stated a clarification. He pointed out that the ratification was <br />unanimous, but the selection election was not, in case there was confusion. He didn't <br />want it out that they unanimously elected. He asked if they could amend the motion. <br />Commissioner Paleka stated that it is pretty clear that they made a selection. <br />
