Emergency Rental Assistance Program: In April 2021, the County launched the federally <br />funded Emergency Rent Assistance Program (ERAP). The program is led by Hawai'i <br />Community Lending and administered locally by six non-profit partners: HOPE Services <br />Hawai'i, Hawai'i First Federal Credit Union, Neighborhood Place of Puna, Habitat for <br />Humanity Hawaii Island, the Salvation Army and Hawai'i County Economic Opportunity <br />Council. ERAP provides rent or utility payments from March 2020 through December <br />2021 to households who have been impacted directly or indirectly by the coronavirus <br />pandemic. The program has provided $3M in financial assistance to over 500 <br />households and have funding to support additional household on Hawaii Island. Jeff <br />Gilbreath, Executive Director, Hawai'i Community Lending will share program <br />information and how the Action Committees can help spread the word about the <br />program within their communities. <br />2. County of Hawai'i Public Access, Open Space & Natural Resources Preservation <br />Commission (PONQ Property Management Technician, Maxine Cutler will provide <br />Action Committee Members with a brief presentation about the Commission and the <br />process through which lands are acquired for preservation. <br />3. County of Hawaii Climate Action Plan: Department of Research & Development <br />Sustainable Development Specialist, Michelle Agbigay and Community Resilience <br />Solutions Coordinator, Kendra Obermaier will share a brief overview of the Climate <br />Action Plan. <br />4. Implementation Updates from Action Committee Members: <br />a. Puna AC Member Susie Osborne will provide a brief overview of a new project in <br />Nanawale that connects food security, education, and resilience. The theme of <br />resilience and sustainability is reflected in every Hawai'i Island CDP. <br />Based on community preparedness initiatives in Hamakua, AC Member Brad <br />Kurokawa will discuss the need for emergency access routes that may include an <br />inventory of public and private road networks in conjunction with bridges, <br />tunnels, and overpasses. The theme of emergency preparedness, connectivity, <br />and transportation networks is reflected in every Hawai'i Island CDP. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />This agenda and all related documents are available for viewing and download via the South <br />Kohala CDP website: 2021 Meetings — Hawaii County Community Development Plans <br />(hawaiicountycdp.info).
