Chair Adams said she would be in touch with the Director regarding ISWMP reporting for the
next round, and certainly if there is anything that he would like the Commission to help in
responding to concerns that the Council and its committees have raised recently, let us know.
Director Mansour expressed appreciation for the discussion. He also added that the ISWMP is a
“living document” because we also have different options we can look into, such as collections
versus transfer stations, and other options that we need to entertain.
8. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
a. Follow up on action items determined today.
Commissioner Cardwell to draft letter to Council regarding funding for the life cycle analysis
(although we may be doing that before the next meeting, Chair Adams said)
Commissioner Burns to provide information on his list of priorities that he discussed with Mr.
Hayducsko and Mr. Goodale.

b. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Secretary Sur noted that SB 1034, amending the Sunshine Law requirements relating to remote
videoconferencing of boards and commissions, has passed out of the Legislature and if it
becomes law, would take effect January 1, 2022.

Next meeting scheduled for May 26, 2022, probably online.

Chair Adams said she and Director Mansour will be participating in the online Waimea
Community Association meeting on May 6, focusing on solid waste issues, and she encouraged
commissioners to reach out to their own district’s members to find out what their issues are.

Commissioner Robinson asked for recommendations on how to connect with the community.
Chair Adams recommended joining community groups and attending public meetings in their
district, and asked others to share how theyget connected.
Commissioner Cardwell said she asks questions on a community-based Facebook group;
Commissioner Olson recommended talking to the transfer station attendants. Vice Chair
Gaffney said the social media network Nextdoor has a lot of useful information for his area.
Commissioner Cardwell said there are some wonderful nonprofit organizations, such as Zero
Waste Hawai‘i Island, which is putting on a sustainability summit on May 28.
