From:Georjean Adams
To:Mansour, Ramzi
Cc:Carrie Hoopii; Dee Fulton; Elyse Robinson; John Burns; Jon Olson; Rick Gaffney; Lee McIntosh; Melissa Cardwell;
Sur, Peter; Hall, Angelic (Malia)
Subject:EMC Meeting Participation
Date:Monday, August 30, 2021 1:13:14 PM
On behalf of the Environmental Management Commission, we want to convey that it is
important that you attend each of our meetings so that you can address questions to better
inform our discussions and oversight. If you cannot make at least a portion of a meeting, we
recommend one of your senior managers substitute.
In addition, EMC expects submission of monthly DEM written informational reports in the
interest of maintaining transparency. We are willing to continue to work on changes that
would save DEM unnecessary effort while still keeping us updated. We suggest the
following:
Monthly Reports on:
1. Answers to agendized questions by individual Commissioners for the month
2. Legislative/Rulemaking Updates - including whether EMC input is requested
3. SW New Initiatives and Major Changes to previous Quarterly Report
4. WW New Initiatives and Major Changes to previous Quarterly Report
5. Other timely information at Director's discretion
Quarterly Reports* on:
1. SW - ISWMP Top Priorities; Statistics on Reload Facility, Landfill Tonnages, Transfer
Station Tonnages, DAV, etc.
2. Wastewater - CIP, Compliance schedules, major planning efforts
3. Staffing and budget
* We can probably just use reports that are already prepared for you or the mayor that would
describe these operational/planning efforts, rather than reformatting just for EMC (insofar as
can be on the public record). Monthly updates would cover any significant new information.
I'm happy to discuss alternatives that could work for both DEM and EMC.
Mahalo.
--
Georjean Adams
Chair, Environmental Management Commission
