The Papa'aloa Elderly Housing Project was awarded HHFDC, PBV and County CIP funds to complete a <br />phased demolition of 10 aging units and replace it with 20 new units and a community center to support <br />low income elderly residents. <br />The West Kawili Senior/Vet. Project will construct 91 new rental units for elderly. Preference for <br />veterans and their spouses. The project has 201H-38 exemptions, HOME and PBV funds, and applied for <br />HHFDC funding. The project expects to start construction in March 2022. <br />The Kaiaulu O Kapiolani project will construct 63 new rental units for lower AMI families. The project has <br />been awarded HHFDC, and PBV funds. Construction to begin in March 2022. <br />The US Army Corps of Engineers began clearing an additional 175 acres for the County's Kamakoa Nui <br />project in Waikoloa, to be completed by December 2021. A Remedial Action Report is expected by <br />September 2022, followed by the State of Hawaii's DOH issuance of a "No Further Action with <br />Institutional Controls Determination" letter. <br />The County selected Pacific Housing Assistance Corp. to build about 120 new rental units for low to <br />moderate income residents. <br />The Honuaula Communities Project consisting of 112 rental units, submitted a 201H-38 application, was <br />awarded PBV and partial USDA 538 funds. The project plans to secure additional HHFDC funding and <br />4 expects to begin construction in early 2022. <br />The Kalcko Heights Affordable Housing project was delayed due to archeological findings that have been <br />resolved, and the installation of a sewer line adjacent to the property. The sewer line is expected to <br />proceed in March 2022. It will be a phased multi -family complex consisting of 100 rental units, which <br />will provide affordable housing to extremely low, very low and low income families. <br />Spring 2021, the DHHL began construction of 169 rent -to own homes for individuals of Hawaiian <br />ancestry in the Villages of LaTopua in Kailua-Kona. <br />The County continues the planning process for a second homeless facility with a wraparound support <br />services in West Hawaii. The site will accommodate homeless individuals and provide permanent <br />supportive housing. CDBG and HOME funds will be needed. <br />The County completed the planning and design phase of additional improvements to the West Hi. <br />Emergency Shelter. Improvements include the installation of a fire suppression sprinkler system, <br />security Iighting, fencing, solar water heaters, photovoltaic panels, and an accessible water fountain. <br />The County was awarded CDBG CV2 funds to complete renovations at the Ulu Wini 96 unit multi -family <br />site for low income families. The community laundry center's current cold water system will be <br />converted to a solar water heating system. The kitchen will be redesigned to meet the DOH Certified <br />Kitchen standards.
