I’m the Chairman of this <br />Commission. I’d like to start with a notice announcement. Because of the Coronavirus <br />Emergency and State and Federal guidance on large meetings or gatherings, and pursuant <br />to the Mayor’s Proclamations regarding COVID-19, the Redistricting Commission <br />meetings are currently not open to the public to attend in-person and until further notice. <br />Members of the public may view or provide oral testimony via the Zoom platform by <br />requesting for this information as noticed on our posted agendas. Thank you for your <br />understanding. I now call this meeting to order, the time is 9:35 a.m., September 9th, <br />2021. <br /> <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br />Re-introduction and welcome of new commissioners <br /> <br />KOSSOW: Let’s start with a roll call and I’ll ask the support staff to assist with the <br />Commission. When called upon, please indicate you as present and whether you are in <br />Hilo, West Hawaiʻi, or participating remotely. Mr. Kauka? <br /> <br />KAUKA: Thank you. Commissioner Lui, “Present in Hilo,” Commissioner Yoshina, <br />“Present in Hilo,” Commissioner Sumera-Lee, (No response), Commissioner Yadao, <br />“Present in Hilo,” Commissioner Bath, “Present in Hilo,” Commissioner Akamu, <br />“Present online via Zoom,” Commissioner Lopez, “Present in West Hawaiʻi Civic <br />Center,” Vice-Chair Hustace “Present, West Hawaiʻi Civic Center,” Chair Kossow, <br />“Present, Kona, West Hawaiʻi Civic Center.” Thank you. Chair, you have eight <br />Commissioners present. <br /> <br />KOSSOW: Thank you. We have quorum. <br /> <br />Commissioners, welcome. As a reminder, during this meeting we are working with <br />commissioners in multiple locations. So, the audio might be a little bit off, and we’re <br />going to do our best, as much as possible. If you have issues, please go ahead, and talk to <br />the support staff as well. Please keep your microphones on mute unless you are speaking. <br />Commissioners in either chambers, your microphone can be activated by pressing the <br />button at the base. I won’t be able to recognize you if the audio is not coming through so <br />to be sure to check if that’s on first when speaking. As I am presiding from Kona, <br />Commissioners here with me, please turn on your light or get my attention to be <br />recognized, just wave your hand. For those in Hilo or who are remote, if you could just <br />get my attention, and I’ll do my best to navigate around to different Commissioners. This <br />may be challenging for us to navigate, but we’ll work through it and thank you in <br />advance for helping us with this. <br /> <br />Since it has been some time since our first meeting in March as we awaited data to work <br />with, my understanding is that we have a new Commissioner who was not yet confirmed <br /> 2 <br /> <br />
