Puako has a terrible cesspool contamination issue. Mauna Lani Resort next door has a treatment plant <br />and needs more water for irrigation. They currently discharge to illegal injection wells. By upgrading, the <br />water resource issue is solved. They could irrigate their golf course and green space with recycled water <br />and end the dumping. Save huge amounts in avoided new water source development while protecting <br />sustainable yield. Again, all the elements are there. But the County would need to handle the sewer <br />improvement district. Given that they self-finance, this really shouldn’t be a problem but years have <br />gone by with no solution.
